Buying a vacation home is a lifestyle choice. There are lots of factors. It could be a rocky mountain condo on the ski slopes in Aspen. It could be a beach house in Fiji. It could be an equestrian estate in the horse country of the mid-Atlantic.
Whatever it is, you have that lifestyle choice in mind. Lifestyle is almost as important a factor as the location for many of our buyers. And a popular lifestyle choice is for a luxury golf home.
When looking stateside, let’s get real, it comes down to three golf Meccas – Arizona, Hawaii, and Florida. Sure places like Chicago have great golf, but only for half the year. And other places like Pebble Beach have amazing courses, but the number of courses is limited. When it comes to quality and quantity, in golf and other activities, there are three destinations that are king for luxury golf homes.
Big Island, HawaiiGolf in Hawaii is endless. Kauai has great golf and there is plenty of golf on Maui and Oahu. But, one of my favorite places is Kuki’o Beach Club on the Big Island. And it is not just because we have had a number of successful auctions there. Though that helps!
Kuki’o is home to two exclusive courses, both designed by famed golf course designer Tom Fazio. The courses are mesmerizing, with breathtaking views of the Kohala coastline. You don’t have to trust me, Travel + Leisure magazine says the Kohala Coast may have “the greatest collection of dramatic seaside golf courses in the world.” Nearby Hualalai Course and Ke’olu Course offer exceptional golfing opportunities, and short drive up the coast, the Mauna Kea Course and the Hapuna Golf Course amazing coastline views with tough but fair holes.
And of course, this is Hawaii. So, the kids can spend the day at the beach, exploring the Mauna Kea volcano, or participating in any number of outdoor activities while you are on the course.

Paradise Valley, ArizonaWe just had our annual company conference in Scottsdale, so I am partial to this area. I also played a round at the Troon North Golf Club, one of hundreds of courses in the area. It was spectacular, despite the fact that we played on one of only 50 or so non-sunny days on the year.
There are a good number of luxury golf homes within the Troon North community, and that is just one of many golfing communities in the Paradise Valley area. On a recent call with an agent partner, I was told that there are 7 golf courses within a 10 minute drive of a particular Paradise Valley home. Not to mention, the house itself is on one of those seven courses. Stay tuned for an upcoming action in Paradise Valley in the coming days.
And the spa scene in Scottsdale is epic. So, send your wife…or your husband…to the spa while you hit the links.

Orlando, FloridaTiger Woods lived in the area for a long time. Is that not enough? Mark O’Meara, Retief Goosen, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Nick Faldo, and Arnold Palmer have all lived in the area. So, per capita, Orlando has to be one of the highest percentages of professional golfers anywhere in the world.
Anywhere on the Butler Chain of Lakes is within minutes of world class golf. Upcoming auction Di Luce Sull’acqua is on Pocket Lake in the area, and just minutes from Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge where Palmer’s signature tournament is played. Also, within a short drive is Isleworth Country Club, the course that Tiger Woods called his home course for years.
You will find easy access to amazing luxury golf homes anywhere in the Orlando area. And on your days off from golf, there is Disney World, Universal Studios, and world class water skiing, among other tourist activities.
