Meet the First Six Recipients of Our Key For Key™ Giving Program

Meet the First Six Recipients of Our Key For Key™ Giving Program

Jun 2, 2017

In April, we announced our Key For Key™ giving program. For every luxury home we sell this year, we will fund the construction of a new home for a family in need.

We are excited to announce that program is officially in full swing. We have recently closed on six sales. These six properties have enabled us to help six families in need.

Meet the first six recipients of our Key For Key™ program, introduced to us by our friends and partners at Giveback Homes.

Dolores Del Carmen Narvaez

Location: Tipitapa, Nicaragua

Dolores Del Carmen Narvaez is an 82-year-old mother and grandma. She stays home to look after the grandkids and do house chores. She lives with her son, Luis (59) and his two sons, Luis, Jr. (11) and Pedro (10). They are both in the fourth grade. Luis works whatever short-term manual labor jobs he can find. He also volunteers to help build the community every weekend. The family all live together in a small structure made of deteriorating wood, rusted zinc sheets, and dirt floors.

The family lives off of $100/month and have had to use much of their income to buy materials for their current structure. With their new home in place, they hope to be able to use that money instead for food, health, and safety.

Dolores’ new home is made possible with the sale of 10343 East Pinnacle Peak Road, which sold for $2.688M on May 8th.

Emilia Cruz

Emilia Cruz is a 70-year-old mother and grandma who works making and selling tortillas. Emilia’s 40-year-old daughter, Yadira, lives with her, along with her own three daughters: Ciara (13), Yonaisi (8), and Leydi (5). Also living in the same home is Emilia’s son, Martin (31), his wife, Lilliam (23), and their two children, Daniela (2) and Noel (3 months). Martin works at a local tobacco factory while Lilliam is a stay-at-home mother. Daniela suffers from pulmonary stenosis, a condition that prevents blood flow to the heart. As a result, she often has fainting spells and convulsions. Doctors have explained that her life is at risk. They have recommended doing more tests. However, these can only be administered at private clinics, which the family cannot afford.

Emilia is a widow from two previous marriages. Economically, she has supported her family independently for 27 years, and now with the help of her son, Martin. The family has lived in their current home for 30 years, which is made of rusted zinc metal sheets, rotting wood, and a dirt floor.

Emilia’s new home is made possible with the sale of 35237 North Ridgeway Drive, which sold for $2.363M on April 25th.

Karla & Sergio Rugama

Karla is 37 years old and Sergio is 47. They have been married 13 years. Before meeting Sergio, Karla was in a very abusive relationship and had 3 daughters who are now 20, 19, and 13 years old.

Karla’s youngest daughter, Carolina, is the only one who still lives at home with Karla and Sergio. Both Karla and Sergio work as mobile vendors, earning about $150 per month.

They are currently living in a poorly constructed home with zinc metal sheets for a roof and rotting wood boards for walls. Karla inherited the property 8 years ago from her parents, but has been unable to save enough to make any improvements or add any locks for security. They’ve been robbed several times.

Karla and Sergio’s new home is made possible with the sale of 180 Eagle Chase Lane, which sold for $1.993M on April 27th.

Petrona Rodriguez

Petrona is 48 years old. She lives with her partner, Jose Ramon (52) and their three children: Ramon (28), Karina (24), Katia (7), and Karina’s 3-year-old son named Dylan. Petrona suffers from high blood pressure and has not been able to leave the house unattended because it’s unsafe, which has prevented her from going to the clinic. She stays home with her grandson, cooking and cleaning for the family.

Jose Ramon works as a mason’s assistant, loading and unloading trucks, earning about $7 per day. Since he works project to project, his pay is inconsistent.

Petrona, Jose, and their family have lived in their current home for 16 years. It is made of rotting wood boards, a zinc metal roof, and has dirt floors. Petrona is thankful and wishes blessings upon those who will help her build her home, so that they can continue doing the same for others.

Petrona’s new home is made possible with the sale of 7839 North Foothills Drive, which sold for $3.03M on May 23rd.

Iris Osorio

Iris lives with her husband and their 11-year-old daughter, Dori. Iris was in her third year of studying social studies at a local university, but had to drop out last year because she could no longer afford it. She now works washing and ironing neighbors’ clothes and babysitting their children. Her husband, Ramon, works as a cobbler. Together, they earn about $100 per month. Additionally, Dori suffers from kidney disease. They travel three hours to Managua every three months for dialysis. The doctors have told them that Dori needs to live in more sanitary conditions, however the medical expenses have prevented her family from being able to afford improved living conditions.

They have lived in their current home, made of wood and zinc metal sheets, for three years. Prior to that, they lived with Ramon’s family, but moved out because the family was being abusive towards Iris and Dori.

Iris’s new home is made possible with the sale of 1325 Silver Rock Lane, which sold for $2.688M on April 25th.
